New PAS Apprentices make big impression
PAS NW Ltd is setting a real-world example of how to equip young people with hands-on experience in construction as two apprentices, Aaron Pinnington and Joshua Yates, are making a strong impression on Seddon Homes' Three Sails Widnes project.
Fraser Linaker, Managing Director at PAS NW, has thrown his weight behind an initiative to develop the next wave of construction talent, and already the business is seeing the benefits.
Aaron and Joshua, both 16, joined the business eight weeks ago. Their work has quickly impressed Site Manager Ste Marsh and Supervisor Shane Allen, as the duo has successfully completed external projects that have delighted the client.
Fresh out of Haydock Ormiston Academy and Delle Le Salle, Aaron and Joshua traded their schoolbooks for site inductions. Under the expert guidance of the site team, they’ve been trusted to deliver a series of patio areas that passed PAS’ rigorous quality checks with flying colours.
Shane Allen, Supervisor, said: “The lads have thrown themselves into the work. They’ve been enthusiastic about every task we've given them, closely shadowing the team to learn how to do things the right way. We’ve monitored their progress closely, and after just a month, we found them competent enough to work independently. The results speak for themselves.”
The St Helens-based apprentices are clearly enjoying the experience.
Aaron said: “I’ve heard that some apprentices hardly get the opportunity to get their hands dirty, but that hasn’t been the case for us. We’ve learned quickly by watching the more experienced lads, who’ve shown us the ropes.”
Joshua added: “Shane and the team have shown us the PAS way of working. It’s tough, but it’s about getting the job done right. Coming from a family of tradesmen, being here and continuing that tradition is something I’m excited about.”
With some of their own external works phase nearly complete, Aaron and Joshua will soon move on to work with a drainage team as they continue to expand their skills.
Fraser Linaker emphasised, “At PAS, we are committed to developing young talent by providing real hands-on experience. There’s a skills shortage in our industry, and we’re doing our part to address that. Aaron and Joshua represent the future site managers of our business.”
